The Glass Replacement Process

Windshield replacement is necessary not just to address unsightly chips or cracks, but also for your safety. If your windshield has sustained considerable damage to the point where you can’t see the road properly and an auto glass repair in Sedona, AZ simply won’t suffice, set up an appointment with Diamond Auto Glass to have your windshield professionally replaced.

Auto glass replacement is a straightforward process that only takes several hours to complete. However, if you’ve never had it done before, you may be wondering what steps are followed when removing an old windshield and replacing it with a new one. Here’s how we do it.

Removing the Old Damaged Windshield

To be able to remove the old windshield, the auto glass services technician will first have to break the seal that holds the glass in place. Removing the molding makes it easier to take out the damaged glass. A sharp tool is typically used for the removal of the window trim or mould.

Once the seal has been loosened, we then use large suction cups to pop the windshield off the frame so that the glass does not break.

Preparing for the Installation

Next, we clean the pinch weld, which, as the name suggests, is what pinches the edge of the glass. This is because dust, dirt, and old urethane tend to accumulate in this area over time. Then, a new layer of urethane or adhesive is evenly applied and the glass is carefully put in place with the help of the same suction cups used earlier.

The new glass should match the exact dimensions of the windshield. This is so that it fits perfectly in the pinch welds. Once the adhesive dries, the mobile auto glass repair or replacement process is complete, and your car is ready to be driven.
